Privacy Policy

Detective is built to keep your data on your device. We do not run accounts, we do not profile you, and we do not sell your data. To make face search work, one piece of data is shared with a third-party provider, and only at the moment of a search. This is explained in full below.

What data we process, and who we share it with

• What: the single photo you choose for a search. It may contain a face, which is personal data.
• How we collect it: only when you tap to run a search. You choose the photo from your library or camera and confirm an in-app consent prompt before anything is sent.
• Who we send it to: FaceCheck.id (FaceCheck), a third-party face-search service. Your photo is uploaded from your device to our server and forwarded to FaceCheck to run the search.
• Why (all uses): solely to search for public web pages that contain a face similar to your photo and return their source links. We do not use your photo for any other purpose.
• Retention: any temporary copy on our server is deleted immediately after the search completes. We do not keep your photos. FaceCheck processes the image under its own privacy terms; we require our providers to protect your data to a standard equal to this policy.
• We send no name, email, account, or other identity information about you along with the photo.

We do not collect or store other data

• Your search history and results are stored only on your device. We do not keep them on our servers.
• No account, no name, no email, no social login. The app works with an anonymous, device-based identifier.
• No analytics or tracking SDKs. We do not track your activity across apps or websites.

Purchases

Subscription and credit status is handled by RevenueCat and the App Store so we can unlock features. We never receive your card details.

Your consent and control

Before your photo is ever sent to FaceCheck, the app shows a clear prompt that tells you what will be sent and to whom, and asks for your permission. If you do not agree, no photo is sent and no search runs. You can stop using face search at any time.

What we never do

• We do not build identity profiles of you or of people in your photos.
• We do not sell or rent your data.
• We do not use your photos to train models.
• We do not keep a server-side copy of your searches or photos.

Your control

Everything lives on your device. Deleting your data in Account, or deleting the app, removes your local history and images completely.

Responsible use

Only search images you have the right to use, and follow the laws in your country. Do not use Detective to harass or harm anyone.
